God Has The Final Say
“The mountains melt like wax at the Presence of the Lord, before the LORD of all the earth” (Psalm 97:5)
Welcome back dear student, problems and busyness can easily pile up into mountains.
When Life Becomes Overwhelming
Time goes by very quickly when demands are high. Some work better with deadlines; others carefully plan and prepare well in advance. ‘Pressure is for tyres’ they say, but it’s easy to get stressed.
There are seasons where one’s sleep may not be great. It affects many people. Night-time, when things get quiet, is when thoughts start drumming. Worries swirling inside the head can cause sleep to flee.
It’s easier to face things if you’ve had a good night’s sleep, because if you don’t the body feels sluggish, emotions are strained, and the mind is tired. Worse again if it’s an ongoing problem.
Guard Your Heart in a Busy World
There’s much negative news nowadays. We are the most informed generation in many ways, yet the most exhausted - with all the advances, technologies, and gadgets, we are completely overstimulated.
It’s hard to switch off to relax and rest. Sometimes we don’t even notice this – because we just have to get on with it, which is why it’s important to stop and reflect, like we spoke of last week.
God’s Word is clear…
“guard your heart, for out of it flow, the issues of life” (Proverbs 4:23).
We each of us are responsible for watching over what is coming in and going out of our hearts.
The Mountain May Have Been Building for Some Time
There are simple changes we can make that might help, but the greatest help comes from how spiritually healthy we are - that is, our relationship with God.
If you ever watch programmes about people who hoard things it’s hard to imagine how a person lives amongst the piles, but it didn’t happen overnight - no doubt, it was a series of events that happened, or a collection of decisions that weren’t made.
It may reflect something deeper that’s going on inside the person - a loss of hope; heartache; oppression; chaos from having to deal with the fall out of trauma, or addictions; fear of letting go, or fear of being in future want.
There’s multiples of reasons, but it all makes for a perfect storm, and suddenly, there’s a mountain that seems too much to tackle.
Seek the Presence of the Living God
Think about the lead Scripture above ‘…mountains melt like wax in the Presence of the Lord’.
Seek the Presence of the Living God! Grow to know Him through His Word and believe His promises.
The peace that comes from relationship with His Son Jesus Christ, results in the huge problems that intimidate and loom overhead melting away! And tension and fear will go too.
What’s left? Circumstances may still be difficult during the cleanup, but now, instead of feeling alone, hopeless, defeated, or confused, it’s possible to move forward, and see solutions forming - changing expectation from dread to joy (Philippians 4:4-8).
What seemed like disaster can be brought into order, when the True Light of the World comes in (Psalm 119:105; John 8:12).
Rest in God’s Promises
You can lie down peacefully, and give all your worries and fears to God, trusting that He will protect you and turn things around, for He loves you (Psalm 3:5; Psalm 55:22).
“If you are willing and obedient you will eat the fat of the land” (Isaiah 1:19).
This means that we all have a personal responsibility to find God’s plan and be transformed by our spiritual connection to the Lord, through obedience (John 14:15-27).
Do Not Panic – God Has the Last Say
This week the government sent out leaflets - perhaps they are preparing for chaos or war (Psalm 2).
Remember, when you hear of ‘rumours of wars’, Jesus said, ‘don’t panic’ (Matthew 24:6; Jeremiah 29:11-14).
Yahweh, our Creator, will have the last say, and He has good plans - to give His children Hope and a future!
