The Word of God: A Message of Life and Hope

3 min read

“For whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, that through endurance and through the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have Hope” (Romans 15:4).

Welcome back dear student, the Bible is the written Word and will of God. One of the Names of Jesus is ‘The Word of God’, therefore, when we study the Scriptures we are not merely reading a novel, but are engaging with the Person of God – His Son Jesus.

This is why the Word of God brings Life and Hope because it is the revelation of relationship, rather than just words on a page.

Frank Sinatra sang… ‘I’m going to sit right down and write myself a letter, and make believe it came from you’, a song telling the loneliness of wanting meaningful relationship with someone to be true.

All the while this is a reality waiting for us in God’s Word - undiscovered treasure.

God’s Vision and His Plans for Our Lives

The Lord has much to say about ‘writing’. He tells us to write the vision and make it plain so that runners can run with it (Habakkuk 2:2).

People talk about vision boards nowadays – it’s a Biblical principle. It’s hard to achieve what you cannot envisage.

God says He has written our names upon His hands – that we are ever before Him (Isaiah 49:16).

The Lord longs for us to become acquainted with His plans for our lives. That’s a vision worth pursuing.

“Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in Your Book were all written the days that were appointed for me, when as yet there was not one of them even taking shape” (Psalm 139:16).

People struggle with low self-esteem, depression, or lack of motivation - often because of negativity from the past, but God’s plans for us are good, and not for evil, to give us a future, and a Hope (Jeremiah 29:11).

Walking in the Light Rather Than Darkness

We live in a world that exonerates criminality, promotes contempt, lauds scoffers, and persecutes believers. Satan is the ruler of the kingdom of darkness, and those who engage with, and tolerate evil can come under his influence and act it out.

This is what is at the root of Halloween. It’s not a fun light festival as it’s promoted - it’s actually dark occultic paganism - evil that defiles children and families.

Exalting darkness gives demons access and a landing strip to homes, and lifelong battles folks never bargained for.

Jesus said “if the light you think you have is actually darkness, how deep that darkness is! (Matthew 6:23).

The Beauty of Writing and Meaningful Connection

It’s sad that the art of writing letters and cards has faded for many. There’s something precious about pouring out heartfelt thoughts on paper.

Sadly, we see plenty of people engaged in pouring out toxic anger, narcissism, and bitterness - there’s no shortage of that!

Things are being lost because the world’s culture is attempting to remove the beauty of truthful connection, empathy, humility, respect, and purity - all of which are God traits.

Jesus Christ: The Light of the World

Satan disguises himself as an angel of light - he is a chameleon, a deceiver, a thief, and a murderer. Jesus Christ is the Light of the World. His Word is Truth, and He doesn’t tolerate or praise works of darkness, He exposes them.

Our Creator is a tender, compassionate Father (Psalm 103:13). A good Father disciplines his children. He teaches them the difference between right and wrong. He supports his children in their endeavours - but he will tell them the truth.

God is our good Father! He is the Father of Light - the Giver of good and perfect gifts, in Whom there is no shadows or darkness at all (James 1:17).

The difference between God’s Kingdom and Satan’s is literally, Light versus darkness.

We must ensure we are truly walking in the Light, led by the Holy Spirit of Truth.
