What Will Remain?

“Rather, you must grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. All Glory to Him, both now and forever!” (2 Peter 3:18).

Welcome back dear student, Peter warns that before the Lord Jesus Christ returns, there will be scoffers, controlled by their own sinful desires, who will mock believers in Jesus. He alerts us to get priorities in order, for everything will be tested by fire, just as in the past the earth was judged by water. Some spend all their energy and lives building empires that will one day become a heap of ashes (1 Corinthians 3:11-20).

Sadly, many turn away from laying a proper spiritual foundation that would benefit both themselves and their children because of carnal activities. The greatest generational wealth and blessing - True Wisdom, and Peace, is found in the deep richness of drawing closer to God through the Lord Jesus. At life’s end it’s all that will matter. When some Greeks met Philip, they had a simple request “Sir, we want to see Jesus” (John 12:21).

Watching a video recently on the Titanic, I saw it sinking and falling down to the ocean floor. The clip depicted how all the debris went flying off the ship, including masses of documents. No doubt much of the fragments were expensive, perhaps even priceless, and so important - BEFORE the ship sank. How much stuff do we value and look after meticulously that’s really worthless in the whole scheme of eternity?

Like, will Jesus look for material accomplishments, or account balance sheets when we close our eyes and meet Him? No, but He is going to say one of two things – ‘well done, good and faithful servant’ or - ‘depart from Me, I never knew you! (Matthew 25:23; Matthew 7:21-23). One is a joyful prospect; the other, chilling. Folks carefully curate their financial and legal matters, and protect their most valuable earthly assets, yet ignore their eternal, ultimate destiny.

Multitudes chase and celebrate great personal feats and exploits, but spiritually they are illiterate weaklings. Not wishing to offend or sound judgemental here friend, but don’t ignore the greatest achievement you will ever gain. Salvation – being made right with God through the sacrifice that His Son Jesus gave for the forgiveness of our sins, resulting in redemption from the kingdom of darkness, is the most precious Gift ever given (Colossians 1:9-14).

See, it’s not a thing – it’s Him!

Oh, that we would see the Lord Jesus and would earnestly seek His face and grow to know Him more every day. Then, when it’s time to leave this earth at a ripe old age, a sign will be posted saying, ‘Gone home’. We are not destined for destruction, but for Grace, Mercy, and Love (Hebrews 10:38-39). Premature death, sickness, breakdown, and isolation are not God’s plans for life on earth.

The only way of finding out His good and perfect will is through the study of His Word, and taking the time to pray, asking the Holy Spirit to reveal God’s Truth. Our freedom and peace is what the Lord Jesus paid for with His Blood (Galatians 5:1). The world tries to convince people to look to the universe for light in themselves, and through babbling unanswered prayers (Matthew 6:6-23).

What is being taught as light, is actually deep darkness.

But the Living God, Creator of all, is waiting to be found by those who seek Him (Jeremiah 29:11-14).

The greatest Architect has carefully considered plans and blueprints to create a beautiful legacy in our lives, if we will invite Him in, and submit to His Lordship (Isaiah 61:1-9; John 3:16). Submission means humbly yielding to God’s Spirit to see His Kingdom reign.

Then, we will see the Lord Jesus and reflect His Glory forever!
